The first time we got this call was 8 years ago. We were living in an apartment in downtown Rochester at the time, and when the post office worker called and told us our packages had arrived, we sprang out of bed as if we were on fire.

I remember the two of us literally buzzing around like bees that morning as we picked up the baby turkeys from the post office and rushed them back to their new home – the farmland we were leasing in Victor.

We’d never been in charge of animals or owned a business before. But we had dreamed of this moment for so long. And with 150 baby turkeys under our care, it was the beginning of something – a true first – and it felt like it!

We’ll Always Remember This Call.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago when Terry (Yes, we are now on a first-name basis with our local post office worker 😂) called to tell us our turkeys were here. There wasn’t even an ounce of stress or anxiety coursing through our veins, just quiet confidence.

We have the luxury of experience to lean on now, and we were ready – heat lamps were on, feeders and waterers were in place. The brooder, the warm space we keep them in for the first few weeks when they’re at their most fragile stage, was set up.

It still befuddles me when you look at them now that these are the birds that will be making their way to your Thanksgiving table come November. But as always, between now and then, you have our word that they’ll be living their best life on pasture, here with us.

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
