One of my Dad’s favorite stories to tell, especially when we’re all sitting around the dinner table together, is about the moment he met Greg for the first time.

It all happened during my senior year at Hamilton College when my Dad and older brother, Dana, came to campus for a visit.

I can’t remember what our loosely laid plans were for the evening, probably a meal in the campus dining hall and a concert of some sort.

But there was one thing I was sure of that night – that under no circumstances was I going to introduce my family to the guy I was totally smitten over!

So, there I sat, with my brother and my dad at the pub, catching up and throwing back the buttered popcorn when, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted my crush walking in.

It was a total coincidence, so says Greg. And I mostly believe him – after all, I hadn’t told him where we’d be or what we’d be up to that evening. But what was I to do?

Naturally, my game plan was to play it cooooool. And by cool, I mean avoiding all eye contact and pretending like he didn’t exist. I mean, if I don’t see him, then he won’t see me, right?

I did my duty and did it well. But apparently, Greg did not because, within a matter of minutes, my Dad had some thoughts to share on the subject.

So that I could hear him above the roar of the crowded pub, he yelled… “Jenney, that boy over there won’t stop looking at you…. I think he’s in LOVE with you!”

My face said it all, as it often does, and apparently, Greg’s did too. Because before I knew it, Greg was standing at my side, meeting my Dad and brother for the first time.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Happy Father’s Day!
