This week, Greg trapped the other stray cat that’s taken up residence in the barn so that we could help her get spayed and vaccinated for all the things.

You’ll be happy to hear that Sprinkles, as we named her, seems to be making a full recovery and should be back to scampering about the barn and catching mice soon.

The younger flock of laying hens that arrived as 1-day old chicks last fall and that we’ve been dutifully caring for all winter, finally started laying a substantial amount of eggs this week, too!

At this early stage, their eggs (called pullet eggs) are a little more petite than what you’re used to seeing from our more mature flock. And they also have these extra strong shells that require an unusual amount of “oomph” to crack. So, get ready for some humorous breakfasts this week!

Once these young hens get up and running over these next few weeks, our egg supplies will increase so that we can finally invite a few more families into our Egg Share program.

If this is something you’re interested in – guaranteed organic pasture raised eggs every week or every other week – be sure to sign up for the waitlist HERE. We sell out quickly and this is the best way for you to know when signups open.

And since we’re on the topic of updates, there’s one more exciting development that we’ve been dying to share with you! Drumroll, please…

It’s official. We just hired our first on-farm employee!

As you know, getting to this place has been quite the journey. We swore we’d never hire an employee and here we are literally jumping for joy that we’ve found a kind soul to help with some of the daily tasks on the farm.

We can’t wait to share all about it in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg

PS – If you can believe it, Easter is coming up next month and we just got our first batch of smoked ham roasts in! You can reserve one for pick up this week HERE.
