You know those cylindrical cement tubes you see when you’re at the Farm Store, shooting up beside the barn?
Well, we’ve made up our minds – it’s time we get a move on and start building the barn addition on top of those babies!
I should admit that we’re absolutely late to the party here. Our original goal was to have the barn addition functional several years ago! Womp, womp…
But the delay was necessary – the price of lumber literally skyrocketed during the pandemic, and estimates were over 2X what they were the year prior!
And we truly couldn’t afford to allocate funds toward the addition, when at that time, at least, it would have been more of a “nice to have” rather than a “need to have.”
But the farm is steadily growing! In the past year, we raised 130 certified organic and pasture-raised pigs in our farrow-to-finish style – this means the pigs were bred, born and raised right here with us!
That’s ~18,000 lbs of meat shared with you and your family! And we’re projecting that this number will grow to 145 pigs and 20,000 lbs of pork in the next year!
With growth comes an inherent need for more storage space, and that’s precisely what the new barn addition will provide for us – additional covered space to keep all our farm equipment and stored hay/straw in tip-top shape, among other things.
Greg and Amanda aim to get started on all this in the next month or two – farmers really are the jack of all trades! And lucky for you, you’ll get a front-row seat to the action as construction gets underway this spring.
We’re ready to do this. It’ll be fun to watch it come together, together!
Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
