I’ve learned that when 10 people ask me the same thing, there are usually a LOT more folks out there who have the same question but are afraid to ask.
When you catch a glimpse of that big timber structure slowly growing out of the side of the barn, I can absolutely understand the confusion…
If we’re downsizing the farm, why are we going through the effort (and making the investment) to expand our barn? It might seem illogical at first, but here’s why:
- It’s in the budget:
We carefully plan out our expenses and projects at the beginning of the year.
And we already set aside the funds – about $7000 – to be able to purchase the materials and make this project happen.
- We still need the storage space:
A barn is kind of like a farm’s closet, and to be blunt, our closet isn’t big enough for all of our shoes. 🤣
But seriously, we have equipment that’s not under cover when it should be and is deteriorating more quickly than we’d like.
Having more space to get equipment out of the elements will help us keep it all in tip-top shape for the long term.
- It’s about damn time:
Have you ever had a project that you started and then just never finished? The biggest project like that in my life has been the barn expansion.
We put in the foundation 6 years ago. And ever since, the concrete piers have sat unused and were sorta eating away at my soul 😜.
With the farm starting to slow down, I finally have time to close the loop on this project, and I’m beyond thrilled!
