I injured my hip just a few months into the pandemic.

Whether it was from climbing over electric fences to care for the farm animals for all these years or all the time I’ve spent pounding the pavement, we’ll never know.

But two and a half years ago, I stepped out of the shower on a beautiful summer morning and felt a giant pop inside my hip. And life just hasn’t been the same since…

We’re all working on something. And if you don’t know this about me already, my injured left hip has been my something – my BIG something – for years now.

I’ve done all the things, working with orthopedic specialists, physical therapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, athletic trainers, and the like.

But every time I’d get to that clearing in the woods where I’d envision myself being able to let go and finally start trusting my body again, I’d experience another setback – another tear, another surgery, and many more months of rehab.

There’s a great stillness that comes with an injury of this nature, and probably any injury or illness, really. And inside this stillness, I’ve been struggling, learning, growing and expanding.

The biggest lessons so far have been learning how to prioritize myself, even when my natural tendency is to care for others and practicing trusting my intuition, even when the path ahead feels uncharted and murky.

Anyways, all this brings me to my exciting news! We just traveled to Colorado and met with the most experienced labral surgeon in the world (the labrum is the ligament inside my hip that keeps tearing!). And he used a new technique using cadaver grafts to put my hip back together again, once and for all!

I’m just a few days post-op now. But my heart is telling me this was the third and final surgery that I’ll ever need for this hip. Which means I’m finally on a path that will get me back to doing all the things I love – which, of course, includes sharing more food and great stories right here with you!
