Years ago, for our honeymoon, we spent a week on a tiny Indonesian island just 3 miles around.

There weren’t any cars or trucks in this magical place. Just donkeys, sandy paths, ocean views, and little thatched roof huts scattered about.

Our favorite place to eat was down one of those sandy roads tucked away in the heart of the island – where the tourists didn’t seem to venture much.

It was a modest setup. There weren’t menus, and we didn’t share a common language, so we didn’t have a clue as to what might arrive on our plates.

We just sat down, smiled, and trusted the woman running the kitchen to use whatever ingredients she had on hand to create something to sustain us for the day.

It was always glorious. The roasted peanuts, spicy sambal, crispy eggs, bean sprouts, fluffy short-grain rice and little cubes of tempeh lit up taste buds we didn’t even know we had. This Indonesian island experience was indeed unforgettable!

We cooked up something similar this week (subbing the tempeh for cubes of pork!), and I was immediately taken back to this trip – the smells, the taste, the sights, the love.

It reminded me of just how much fun our kitchens can be. They can serve as gateways to the most magical destinations, taking us back to the times and places or even people we’d like to experience once again.

We recently received a note, in the form of a Google review, that spoke to this, too. Chef Jacob wrote, “Any and all cuts of Stonecrop Pork that have graced our dining room table taste of my Grandmother’s cooking.” It was one of the best compliments we’ve ever received.

So, here’s my question for you! Where’s your kitchen taking you this week?

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg

PS – If you’ve ever shopped with us at the Farm Store or experienced the awesomeness of getting one of our Half Pigs, it would mean the world to us if you’d leave us a review and help get the word out about our small farm!
