It’s been an eventful spring at the farm. The yo-yo weather these past 6 weeks has put us to the test. We’ve been challenged to adapt our systems on the fly. Heat, cold, windstorms, a blizzard, and let us not forget the heavy rains and flooding this week.

We’ve weathered the storms and are pleased that despite the loss of one of our hoop houses and lots of trees, all of our animals are thriving and their housing and other structures on the farm are entirely intact. 

A recent highlight on the farm this month was hosting 30 students from Brighton High School Environmental Science class for a tour of the farm. Despite walking around the farm in  yet another rain storm, I enjoyed the opportunity to share our experience with humane animal husbandry, the environmental benefits to pasture-raised livestock, and the future of farming in Rochester. We were really happy to be able to expose these bright students to local food systems and farming concepts.

In other farm news… we were thrilled that two of our favorite pigs on the farm delivered their first batch of piglets last month.  Both sows and all 15 baby piglets are healthy and doing great. Jenney kept a watchful eye on them throughout their pregnancies and labors, as any midwife would do.

We are happy to report that we will be back in stock w/ all cuts of pork starting April 23rd, so mark your calendars and feel free to pre-order with us ahead of time if there are some products you want us to set aside for you. We will also have fresh whole chicken and parts starting May 14th at the Brighton Farmers Market.

 We’re excited to announce that we’re offering sign-ups for our Organic Egg Share, Fresh Organic Chicken share and an Organic Pig Share (see more details below). Sign-ups are due by June 1st. Early birds who sign up for a Stonecrop CSA share in the month of April will be put into a raffle for a month-long egg share in May!  We will announce a winner on May 1st.
