When we first started the farm, we had one big goal. Every cut of pork, every dozen eggs, every “hand” of ginger, everything we grew wasn’t just going to be good. It was going to be exceptional.

As we figured out how to achieve this ourselves, we really couldn’t imagine bringing someone else into the fold. It wasn’t just that we couldn’t afford an employee, either (though we absolutely could not…).

We couldn’t ever identify a job that we could ask someone to do that would actually lighten the load for us. Sure, there are tasks that we need help with like with Thanksgiving turkey processing, for example.

But unlike our veggie farming friends who need helping hands throughout the growing season, we’ve always designed our systems to run smoothly with just the two of us.

Everything changed when we had our Big 2020 Planning Meeting back in January, though. We were sitting in our living room, thinking hard about ways to give Greg more hours in the day for the work he loves – being outside with the animals doing the actual work of farming – and it hit us.

We didn’t need someone to clip the pasture or help rotate the animals for us – these are the parts of farming that are actually very technical and that we love doing ourselves.

We needed someone to help us stay organized and keep up with the important businessy things on the back-end. To chip away at some of the administrative tasks that can slow us down. To be there to help YOU and answer your questions, when we’re tied up with the work of farming.

Our farm is personal and the community that supports it is just incredible. And so, the process of finding this mysterious dream-boat to join our world felt sorta like online dating. But guess what??

We searched for a whole month and then…we found her! Her name is Shelly. She’s kind and careful and open-hearted. She’s extraordinarily organized and she gets as excited as we do about schedules and spreadsheets and streamlining.

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
