What makes you say YES to those hard things in the life?

To overcome the doubt and jump in head first, trusting that when (not IF) the going gets tough, a big wave or something of equal might, will catch you and carry you forward?

This is what taking that leap of faith felt like when we said YES to the customer who showed us her 200 year old barn back in 2017 and invited us to move it to our farm.

And this is exactly how it feels all over again, as we sit and wrestle with the question of whether to build the big barn addition this year – a job that will no doubt be costly, technically challenging, and time consuming.

We actually took the first step and poured the concrete piers for the barn addition a few years ago, thinking we’d need the added space. But in the end, it just wasn’t the right time.

That was 4 plus years ago! And since then, the piers have sat dormant beside the barn, with little purpose except to exist and offer us gentle reminders that more storage space is available if we’re willing to work for it.

It seems that we may have pumped the breaks for long enough because Greg told me last week, it feels every time he walks by the barn now, he feels like they’re begging for us to get a move on.

Truth is, it would be a good year for us to take this on. Lumber prices are down, space for things like hay and straw is tight, and since we’re hiring an employee this spring, we should have the time to get the job done ourselves.

I know the moment we say YES, everything will align. We’ll spring into action and other aspects of life will spontaneously shift to accommodate the energy, time, and resources we’ll need to extend in this new direction.

But the question remains. Is 2022 the year? If so, we’d better get a move on…

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
