Sometimes I joke about how Greg made a total 180° change when he decided to become a farmer. But in actuality, farming isn’t that different from chemistry after all.
The major differences are just that instead of running a series of 1 minute long experiments in a windowless lab and analyzing the composition of air canisters (remember he was an atmospheric chemist before he became a farmer) …
We’re working together with magnificent creatures like our pigs and running a series of year long experiments with variables like the wind and the snow and whatever else nature decides to throw our way.
This past year’s experiment was filled with so much growth and change. And our task on the farm this week has been comparing and contrasting this most recent experiment with all the others – we have 6 in the books now – so that we can formulate a vision for 2022 that feels true.
As per usual, we’ve found ourselves tempted by the idea of adding new enterprises to the mix. I mean, a dairy cow could be fun! But we know better.
In our experience, more does not equal more. And in fact more, more often than not, means less – less time for the aspects of farming we love the most, less time to take care of ourselves and each other, and less time to take care of YOU.
So instead of dispersing our energy into new ventures this year, we’ve set our sights on growing in a different way. And by that we mean making your customer experience even more top notch and optimizing our systems on the farm, including hiring our first on-farm employee (please contact us if you’re interested in joining our small, but mighty team!).
Our mission has always been to bring you the best pasture raised meats and eggs on the planet. And I have no doubt that we’ll see that come to fruition again in 2022, especially with your support and guidance. More to come soon…
