I’d be lying if I said that having a break from pig farrowing hasn’t been nice.

These past 6 weeks without new piglets to tend to has given us a breather to catch up on other farm tasks and transition into our summer groove. It’s been lovely, actually.

But since we are pig farmers after all (and we do intend to have food available for you 8 months from now ? ), it’s time to keep the train moving and welcome a new litter of piglets to the farm.

Our sow, named Meatball, is up first. This will be her 4th litter and our records tell us that her other deliveries have gone reasonably well, with smooth labors, good mothering instincts, and strong piglets.

Under normal circumstances, we’d check in on her a bit right at the start of labor. But then let her be, since we don’t have to worry about drying off the piglets to prevent hypothermia in the summertime. But, these are not normal circumstances!

Why? Because we just realized that Meatball’s due date happens to be the SAME exact day of our upcoming Farm Tour! Which means some of YOU may be here while she’s giving birth.

Assuming this all coincides the way it just might and the labor is progressing normally (and Meatball isn’t bothered by our presence), there may be something extra exciting to witness together at the tour next week!

Who’s in?

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg

PS – Tickets for the Farm Tour next week must be purchased in advance HERE. We’ll have an ASL interpreter, too!

PPS – Isn’t it amazing to realize that the pork we share with you at the Farm Store comes from pigs that have been with us from the day they were born to the day they go to the butcher? This is one of the ways we keep our quality sky-high!
