It was a big week. For the first time in Stonecrop history, we said bon voyage to a litter of piglets, as they headed off toward their new home on another farm.
With time, I’m sure the term “organic pig breeder” will roll off the tongue easily – sorta like how “scrotal hernia” now does (we’ve been discussing these a lot lately since one of our piglets had one and it just recently healed itself!). For now, though, this still feels like uncharted territory.
We made up our minds about something else this week, too. Our Farm Store – located right beside the wandering chickens and noisy pigs, and the old barn we relocated by hand from down the road – is going to be our home base for years to come.
With that in mind, we decided it’s time to increase our storage capabilities. We have fridges and freezers. But, we have big plans to share more of our pork, beef, veggies and maybe even some other goodies with you this summer.
And keeping everything organized and tidy and cool and safe (you know us!) would be challenging with our current set-up. So, we pulled the trigger and purchased a small walk in cooler.
Greg plans to pick it up next week. Which means, you’ll see the Farm Store in a state of transition, as we start building out the walk-in, installing a new freezer, and as long as the weather holds, moving animals into their spring paddocks.
I have long thought that spring is the time of year where the farm looks its least beautiful. But I remind myself that there’s so much possibility and progress in the messy and unknown.
We can’t wait to keep sharing it ALL with you right here, this season.
