There’s a great book out there called Atomic Habits, by James Clear. Have you heard of it? I loved it. So much so, that it’s been over a year since I read it, and I still find myself thinking about it often.
My big takeaway from the book was that the best way to move the needle in life is to make tiny, atomic-level improvements in behavior, every day. And then (and this part’s important!), allow those 1% improvements to compound over time.
This is absolutely the mindset we apply with so many things on the farm these days. And this week, I’m seeing it show up in my writing, too.
You see, a few years ago, in a newsletter just like this one, I promised that I’d share a story from the farm with you each week.
It was a goal that I was completely unprepared for (I hated writing!) and uncomfortable with (vulnerability is hard!). But the prospect excited me nonetheless.
Week after week, I sat down and gave it my best shot, always with the intention of being real and sharing the farm and all its wonders with you.
Sometimes I loved the end result. And other times I didn’t. Sometimes it was easy, and other times it was hard. But I’ve always kept writing and allowed the process to evolve, and my habits to build.
It’s been 3 whole years. And when I look back, all I can see are those tiny improvements that took me from Point A – that crazy promise- to Point B – which is what you’re reading right now and just so happens to be the 157th consecutive Stonecrop newsletter!
Sharing stories with you has fast become my favorite part of what it means to be a farmer, and literally no one could be more surprised by that, than me.
Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
