There’s a new trend amongst small organic farms like ours. And it’s one that we’ve been watching for some time. Any ideas about what it might be? If you guessed SHIPPING, you’d be correct!

There’s such an obvious convenience to clicking the buttons and waiting for the thing we want to show up at our doorsteps. Just today, for example, we had not 1, but 2 different deliveries to the farm.

But as anyone who’s dipped their toes into this world probably already knows, there’s a big difference between shipping a box of drawer pulls (which showed up for the bedroom reno today!) and a box of meat.

Shipping perishable food requires dry ice, cooler packs, and insulated boxes – all of which have environmental and financial costs.

And then there’s the increased opportunity for food waste, especially with the ever present reality of shipping delays. Not to mention the tech and labor costs required to pack boxes and make sure they’re delivered to the right place.

Despite all that, it still feels like something we ought to consider carefully. And that’s exactly what we’ve been doing lately….

This week, it occurred to me that sometimes, when it comes to the very important things in life, human to human connection matters. And I wonder if it’s exactly this personal connection that we get to make with YOU and that you get to make with US, that makes our Farm Store so special.

It’s a bit unnerving to see a trend like this one and decide not to participate. But we’ve come to believe that the Farm Store is truly the best place for us to keep on serving you. And I’m curious to know what you think about this decision!

Hit reply to this email and tell us – what’s been your experience shopping with us at the Farm Store? What can we do to make it more convenient or comfortable for you? Do you think you’d prefer to have our products shipped to you (see boxes and insulators and added expenses above) or keep picking up directly from the Farm Store in Henrietta?

Thanks in advance for all your insight. It means the world to us!

Your Farmers,

Jenney & Greg
