Anytime I doubt that Greg’s chemistry background is even the least bit related to his work on the farm, he reminds me that when it comes down to it, farming is just a series of complicated year-long experiments.

A year ago, in the dead of winter, we set our intention for the experiment ahead. And it went something like this…

We’ll focus our energy on a few things (pigs, poultry and specialty produce) and grow the highest quality food imaginable.

We’ll serve our community (that’s you!) with transparency, generosity, and the most top notch customer service ever.

And we’ll pay ourselves fairly for the work we do (we’re aiming for a teacher’s salary for Greg) to help sustain the farm for years to come.

This year’s experiment came with some of the fiercest variables imaginable. It required us to recalibrate often. But looking back, amidst the struggle, it was a year of tremendous growth.

We launched our first ever Squash Project and were amazed to see how well the fertility from the pigs enriched the flavor (and the growth) of certain squash varieties.

We partnered with other farmers and brought new items like veggies and grass fed beef (more updates on beef coming soon) to the Farm Store.

We learned that the Farm Store is not just the best home base for us, it’s the safest way for us to share food with you.

And we saw that you are the most loyal, loving, and fun community two farmers could ever have the privilege of serving.

It was an experiment that we’ll always remember. And now that it’s over, it’s time to start looking at our results and find opportunities for learning to carry forward for next year. We’d love your help with this….

How was the quality of the food we produced?

What was something new you tried this year and how did it go?

What was going on in your life that brought you to sign up for our newsletter and/or purchase food from us for the first time?

What was the most unexpected result you experienced from getting your food from our farm?

What one word would you use to describe our Farm?

We’ve had the opportunity to complete just 6 of these experiments so far. And we know that if we continue to take good care of our land and our animals and most importantly, listen to you, we’ll get to experience another 20 or 30 more together.

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
