We’ve been trying not to overload our brains with too many COVID updates. I’ve turned off the push-notifications on my phone. And we try to limit ourselves to a couple of news check-ins per day.

But, there was a story that struck a chord with us this week: one of the biggest US-based pork processing facilities is closing due to COVID-19. They say that this, along with a lot of other closures recently, may put a big strain on the meat supply chain.

I was struck by this for a couple of reasons. First, I think a shift like this could make it so that small farms like ours have an increasingly important role to play in our collective food security going forward. It suddenly feels like partnerships with farmers, like the one we share, are more important than ever before.

Second, this story reminded us that as the only certified-organic livestock farmers in the county, we need to stay hypervigilent. We are responsible for making sure every step of our process – from the animals in the fields, to the meat on your kitchen table – is safe.

With all this top of mind, we’ve done some soul-searching and have decided that in order to best manage the flow of customers, we’re no longer offering pickup at the Brighton Farmers Market (which is still closed at this time, but anticipated to open at some point this spring/summer).

All sales this summer, including our Egg Share pickup, will take place at our Farm Store only. We hope you’ll see this as a testament to how much we care about you and your safety. And that you’ll find comfort in knowing that you can count on us to grow healthy and SAFE foods for you and your families for the long-haul.

Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
