We bought a farm! That’s right we moved our operation from Victor to a lovely 56 acres of rolling fields and forests in Henrietta and Stonecrop Turkeys has officially become Stonecrop Farm! Our new home is host to a protected wetland, lots of forest, and beautiful fields that will make a great home to all of our livestock. And we’re only 20 minutes from the heart of Rochester!
In addition to being able to find our products at the Mud Creek Farm CSA distribution, you’ll also see us at the Brighton Farmers Market every Sunday 9-1 this summer and fall at the Brighton High School (1150 Winton Road S. Rochester, NY). Outdoor market season kicks off this weekend and we’ll be bringing fresh chickens, chicken feet (for stock) and rhubarb!
Throughout the season, we will keep bringing our great pastured chickens, ducks and pork, as well as eggs, ginger, turmeric, and some other great products from the farm. To pre-order chickens, ducks, turkeys, or half/whole pigs, please see our online order form.
Organic Certification
We’ve decided to certify our farm for organic production through NOFA-NY. We actually had our inspection from NOFA-NY LLC this week and passed with flying colors, so we expect to get our determination letter and certification by mid-summer!
Certification does not require much of a change from how we were raising our animals last year (we’re feeding them the same local organic feed, rotating them on pasture, etc). The big difference is that we need to document everything and get to spend time over the winter filling out paperwork! Definitely worth it convey our commitment to land stewardship and responsible husbandry.
New Offerings
2016 has already become super busy as we keep welcoming animals to the farm. Our flock of laying hens is out fertilizing future vegetable fields as we move them around every week in their egg-mobile. We will be bringing eggs every week to the Brighton Farmers Market, as well as the CSA pickup at Mud Creek Farm in Victor, NY.
In addition to the usual meat chickens, ducks, and turkeys, we are also raising pigs this year! Our pigs have been tearing up our pastures and beating back the brush on our land throughout the spring and have already become an amazing part of the farm. Cuts of pork will be available starting in late June, and we will pre-sell whole and half pigs for processing in the fall. Get in touch with us through the contact page if you’d like to know more about buying a whole/half pig.
And we’ll also be growing some specialty produce like ginger and turmeric for sale later in the season. Keep an eye out for these goodies to show up at the Brighton Market or Mud Creek distribution. We’ll be sure to announce when they’re ready!
Your Farmers,
Jenney & Greg
